A Communications Guide for CAS Parents and Guardians
A Communications Guide for CAS Parents and Guardians
2005-06
Dear CAS Parents and Guardians,
The CAS school places a high value on the involvement of CAS parents and guardians in their children's education. During the school year, CAS sponsors several events to promote the sharing of information and formal and informal exchange between CAS parents/guardians and CAS staff members.
There are times, however, when parents and guardians may have questions and concerns regarding their individual child’s participation in the CAS. Below is some information that will assist you in having your questions and concerns addressed by a CAS teacher or administrator. We are working to create Advisory classes for next year. Once we set up Advisory, student's Advisory teacher will be first contact. For now, it is as follows:

For Information Regarding a Particular Class:
If a parent or guardian has a question or concern regarding a child's participation in a particular CAS class, please contact the classroom teacher directly. On the back of this page you will find a contact list with phone numbers and e-mail addresses for all CAS teachers and administrators. If you have access to e-mail, please try to contact the teacher by e-mail first; then telephone if you do not receive a reply.
Please leave a message with the nature of your question and concern, your phone number and the best time to reach you. Remember to speak slowly and clearly when leaving phone messages.
The CAS staff is committed to responding to your telephone and e-mail messages within 48 hours or 2 business days (M-F). If you do not hear back from your child’s teachers within this time, please leave a second message.
Teacher Contact Guidelines:
Please use only the contact emails that are provided here, even if you already have access to the teacher's home phone number. In other words, if the e-mail or phone number doesn’t work don’t use alternate numbers or e-mails you may have.
Some of our teachers have given out their home and cell phone numbers as their primary contact (it is so indicated on the roster). If this is the case, please maintain respectful hours when calling: Monday through Friday, from 8am to 8pm.
Just as parents appreciate positive contacts from teachers, they enjoy having positive contacts with parents, as well. We care about your family, and we are here for your student and you as a parent. We believe that our partnership with parents is essential for your student's success.
If You Are Not Satisfied With the Response:
If You Receive No Reply: If you did not receive a reply from your child’s teacher after the second try, please contact CAS Counselor, Stephen Chang. Mr. Chang will put a note in the teacher’s box requesting an immediate response. If after 24 hours you have not received a call from your child’s teacher, please call Assistant Principal, Matt Huxley, to ensure that your issues are addressed.
If the Conversation Did Not Adequately Address Your Questions or Concerns: If you had a conversation with your child’s classroom teacher and you felt that your question or concern was not resolved, please call Rick Ayers, the CAS Lead Teacher, to discuss your situation.
How Do Teachers Communicate with CAS Parents/Guardians?
Progress Reports: Progress report periods for BHS are every 4 ½ weeks. A progress report grade is sometimes a range grade (A-B, B-C, etc.) or sometimes a whole grade (A, B, C, etc.). Progress report grades do not go on the permanent record or a student’s academic transcript. They are an opportunity for teachers to communicate with families regarding student progress. Teachers are committed to reviewing each student’s progress on this 4 ½ week marking period schedule. The only grades that remain on a student's permanent record are semester grades- one at the end of January and one at the end of the school year in mid-June.
Teacher-Initiated Contacts: If a CAS administrator or teacher has a particular question or concern regarding a child's participation in CAS, the child's parent or guardian may be contacted. In this way, the parent or guardian and CAS teacher/administrator can review the situation and work together to formulate a plan that supports the child’s full success in the program.
Thank you!!
